History
University City South, Charlotte, NC has a long history of development in the form of education and growth. In 1946, the government opened a Charlotte center to educate veterans of the second world war. It was such a success that within three years, the center had become a 2-year Charlotte college, and by 1961, the college moved to a larger space and finally grew to a staggering 1,000 acres of land.
In 1964, the institution underwent another transformation when it became a 4-year state-sponsored institution. And just one year later, in 1965, the government passed a bill that gave it the University status and became known as UNC Charlotte. This educational growth that began in 1946 has brought economic development to the area still evident today.
