Union Cross is an unincorporated community in southeastern Forsyth County, North Carolina. It has a long and fascinating history dating back to the mid-1800s when a plank road was built from Fayetteville through High Point. The area was once home to a self-contained community staffed and operated by the United States Air Force, with the Union Cross Radar Station being built in 1953.
In recent years, parts of the community have been annexed by Kernersville and Winston-Salem due to considerable population growth and the construction of new roads. The name Union Cross comes from an old workhouse on Shelbourne Road, which was located at a crossroads.
