History
The neighborhood of South Parkin Charlotte, NC, is steeped in history. It all began when the 3,000-acre (1,200 ha) farm owned by Cameron Morrison was turned into the South Park Mall complex. Developed and jointly owned by the Belk and Ivey families, this mall originally boasted three anchor stores; Belk, Ivey’s, and Sears.
When it was first announced that pastureland would be transformed into a shopping mall, most people were skeptical about it becoming a success. However, unbeknownst to them, the plans for South Park extended beyond just having an impressive retail complex.
