Midtownis a community in Raleigh, North Carolina, the focal area lies between the I-540 Outer Loop and I-440 Beltline, with Capital Boulevard on the East and Umstead Park on the West. It is the region encompassing the North Hills shopping center, which sits just to the north of the I-440 beltline. North Hills was a run-down tiny shopping mall before a local developer acquired it and turned it into a pretty nice urban shopping district. After undergoing that makeover, it was given the moniker “Midtown” to make it sound as posh as it now appeared.
Before the Raleigh beltline was erected, Midtown, Raleigh, NCwas known as North Raleigh. Although it is not downtown, the region is well-known for its accessibility to major highways and employment hubs, as well as its proximity to the downtown area. It is not only conveniently located near I-440, but it is also close to I-40, which will take you to Research Triangle Park, the center of the pharmaceutical and technological industries.
History
“Midtown Raleigh,” is a relatively recent phrase used to characterize the North Raleigh residential and commercial district that is located north of the I-440 Beltline. It is roughly bounded to the north by Millbrook Road, to the east by Wake Forest Road, and the west by Glenwood/Six Forks Road. It features retail establishments like North Hills and Crabtree Valley Mall.
The area also includes North Hills Park and a portion of the Raleigh Greenway System. Developer John Kane and Mitchell Silver, the planning director of the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce, came up with the name. The News & Observer newspaper was the first to use the phrase, and only for promotional purposes.
On July 25, 2011, the Midtown Raleigh Alliance was established by local leaders as a vehicle for promoting the neighborhood. Since 2010, multiple high-rise structures have come up, and this has caused rapid urbanization of the area’s center, particularly around the North Hills development at the intersection of the Beltline and Six Forks Road.

Most of the homes in this area came up between the 1960s and 1990, with a few newer infill neighborhoods. In recent years, high rises and commercial construction have replaced suburban-style properties as the primary kind of development in Midtown. Several new high towers are coming up right now in the area.
The median home price is $545,252 and a one-bedroom apartment rents for around $1,607. Two-bedroom apartments rent for an average of $1,929, while three-bedroom houses have a median rent of $2,328. The average age in the neighborhood is 37 years, with 57% of the residents being homeowners and 43% being renters.
Midtown is close to downtown Raleigh with most of the working residents walking to work. The area also has easy access to key highways and major employment centers Also, popular attractions, including the Historic District, The Raleigh Museum district, Moore Square Park, etc., in the Raleigh Downtown region are all within a 10- to 15-minute drive of Midtown.
