Meredith College is a four-year, private liberal arts college of women within Raleigh, North Carolina. Founded in 1891 as the State Teachers College at Raleigh, Meredith College is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and approved by the Council on Postsecondary Accreditation (COPA).
The college offers over 90 undergraduate majors, pre-professional studies, and graduate programs. Meredith is home to approximately 2,200 women and men of diverse backgrounds. It has a rich history of providing quality education to women of all backgrounds and faiths within Raleigh.
History
Meredith College is a private college with a rich history. It was founded in 1891 by the North Carolina Baptist State Convention and was initially named the International Female College. The institution had its name changed in 1909 in honor of Thomas Meredith, an influential baptist pastor who had served as a trustee for many years.
It is one of the oldest institutions of higher learning for women in North Carolina and has been coeducational since its founding. The school offers arts, sciences, humanities, and business programs.

There are seven comfortable residence halls available for on-campus housing. There is also a shared lounge area where residents can interact during their free time. The first and second-year students must live in school or commute from home.
In addition to its academic programs, Meredith College provides students with opportunities for recreation and athletics. Meredith’s athletics department includes baseball, basketball, and football men’s teams. Women’s teams include basketball, lacrosse, soccer, and volleyball. The athletics department also provides intramural sports.
Meredith College also has many traditions that are celebrated throughout the year. During Homecoming Week each fall, several events take place on campus, including; The Homecoming Parade, award presentation, bathtub ring, class color, class ring, and Alice in Wonderland, among others.
Meredith College offers an intimate learning environment with small class sizes. Students can work closely with professors in their major field of study and during their general education requirements. The college also offers several studies abroad programs for students who wish to study outside the United States.
The campus has many student amenities, including an athletic field, a fitness center, and intramural sports programs. Students can also take advantage of the student center with a bookstore and dining hall.
