History

Five Points began as a combination of suburbs, including Georgetown, Vanguard Park, Roanoke Park, Bloomsbury, and Hayes Barton, during the 1910s. As the suburban developments filled up, another wave of infrastructure projects attracted settlement. Carolina Power and Light developed an amusement park in 1918 to attract riders to the streetcar line. Parts of Bloomsbury and Georgetown also received attention though development was delayed until the 1920s.

Vanguard Park was also prepared for projects in 1915, but two decades passed before the majority of the construction of houses. Construction in the other areas, like Roanoke Park, platted in 1920 but took off immediately. Grand eclectic designs for Bloomsbury were modeled after Georgian Revival, Colonial Revival, and Tudor Revival designs. During the post-Depression Recovery era in the 1930s, though, there was more modest housing with efficient floor plans. All of the neighborhoods were nearly built out as the twentieth century reached the midpoint.

Today, it is an up-and-coming area with a range of housing styles within the neighborhood. It also radiates from the intersection of Glenwood Avenue with Whitaker Mill and Fairview roads.
