History
Dubbed Greenboro’s first park neighborhood, Fisher Park is named after Captain Basil John Fisher – a philanthropic Scotsman who donated 14 acres of his land to the city of Greensboro for the establishment of a park and a suburb around the park in 1902. He planned to build a neighborhood surrounding the park but never got to because he died unexpectedly the next year. As part of the deal, the city of Greensboro promised to build a driveway through the property that included a trolley line. This, coupled with the park’s appeal, motivated local developers to build commercial and residential properties in that neighborhood in earnest.
