Hans started working with his wife, and they explored and sampled collections of incredible depth and diversity.
Later in 1979, their son relocated to Charlotte, NC, for business. He had also grown up learning about different types of art and developed an immense interest in modern art collections. He later made his move to Charlotte city permanent, bringing all the art collections he inherited from his parents. With the little he had collected, he decided to donate to the city of Charlotte.
Today, the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art operates on a public-private partnership between Wachovia/Wells Fargo, the City of Charlotte, and Mecklenburg County.
